First On Scene: Training
for Emergency Responders - a Radiological Primer is a
pre-awareness course designed for responders who have little or no training
in emergencies involving radiological material. It is not intended to
provide the responder with technical advice or response recommendations, but
to give all responders, including police and EMS, a basic understanding of
the hazards and the relative risk of radiological materials when they are
encountered in an accident or uncontrolled setting.
Upon completing the eleven
basic modules you may take the on-line final exam. Those who complete this
exam with a score of 70% or better will be able to access and print a
certificate of completion. In addition, those who successfully complete the
course will also be able to access three additional modules dealing with
emergency response activities.
The Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment is providing this course at no charge to the
responders within the state. It is our recommendation that if you believe
you may need to respond to an incident involving radioactive material that
you take the Modular Emergency Response Radiological Transportation Training
(MERRTT) course. More information on this course may be obtained by calling
(303) 692-3025.
It is estimated that the
time to complete all eleven basic modules should be 1.5 - 2.0 hours.
